Summary
Description
BORP Kayaking welcomes volunteers of all skill levels and abilities. You may attend either or both days of this two-day event. We offer apprenticeship training year-round, and this is a once annual opportunity for an in-depth exploration of the skills and tools of adaptive kayaking.
Day 1: ON LAND, Saturday April 26, 9 - 3 pm. On land, we'll explore disability awareness, safe and respectful transfers, adaptive boat fit, and the tools we use to make kayaking accessible.
Day 2: ON THE WATER, Sunday April 27, 9 am - 3 pm. First, we'll practice the skills we've covered. Then, in the afternoon, we'll paddle on the Aquatic Park lagoon and practice water skills including: kayak instruction, tows, rescues, and emergency response all considering the needs and skills of people with disabilities.
Please BYO lunch and be prepared to be outdoors and on the water and all day.
The site is wheelchair accessible, including the bathroom.
*This is not a mandatory event and volunteers are welcome to join and apprentice throughout the season. This event can help volunteers qualify for roles with greater responsibility. We hope participants will volunteer with us for three or more events throughout the season.
