Description

SCI Group Meet Up

Join us on Tuesday*, June 18 for a presentation by Certified Nutritionist Shelley Wood, MPH, RDN

Meeting is in person 6pm-8pm.

Good nutrition is essential to a healthy life, but it can be so challenging to navigate what’s best with all the information and different diets out there. People living with spinal cord injuries have unique needs. Join us for a lively discussion with Nutritionist Shelley Wood, MPH, RDN!

Shelley Wood is a lifelong advocate of nutrition. When she isn’t working with her patients, she can be found chopping up veggies from her garden and concocting new recipes in her kitchen.

She obtained her B.S. in Nutritional Science from San Jose State University in 2012 and her Master’s in Public Health from the University of New England in 2016. She has lectured at San Jose State as well as completed and published work in research, specifically with tele-nutrition. Her work in research regarding nutrition therapy for those with SCI is ongoing.

Her career at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center has included extensive work with inpatient and outpatient Physical Medicine and Rehab patients (primarily those who have had traumatic spinal cord injuries). Her work with rehabilitating patients involves complex gastrointestinal conditions which led her to join the outpatient gastroenterology team as well, so that she could help others in the able-bodied population. She currently enjoys assisting her patients with numerous gastrointestinal issues and working to improve their symptoms and reduce risk for chronic disease using medical nutrition therapy.

Shelly and Arash, the Executive Director of NORCAL SCI,  worked together on an informative nutrition series that can be found on Youtube

Review some of ths before the meeting as it will spark some questions.

Shelly will discuss her research and ongoing with the SCI community, but this will be mostly, Q&A so come with questions!
